Day 1 on our Weekend Special motorcycle tour is a 250 km ride. mostly on a smooth and fast dual-carriageway, to Nahan, a town in the lower Himalayas. Away from the buzzing crowd of the city, among the lofty Shivalik range overlooking lush green fields, dirt free roads and clean streets, this small hill station serves as an ideal holiday destination. The quaint town is dotted with gardens, temples and a manmade lake.  It is also the location of the Indian Army Special Forces Training School. It was the capital of the former princely state of Sirmaur. Nearby attractions include the Renuka Ji Lake. On Day 2, we travel 120 km to reach Nalagarh, a beautiful hill station in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh. Nalagarh serves as the entryway to the mountain state of Himachal Pradesh. The Nalagarh Valley is a long band surrounded by the spurs of the outer Himalayas to its north-east and the heavily eroded range of the Shivaliks in the south and west. A short 100 km ride on Day 3 takes us to Punjab’s best-kept secret. Patiala was once the capital of an independent Sikh state, ruled by an extravagant family of maharajas. As the Mughal empire declined, the rulers of Patiala curried favour with the British and filled their city with lavish palaces and follies. After Independence and the subsequent abolition of privy purses, royal fortunes began to decline, and the once regal city slowly became a shadow of its former self. Today, the grand monuments are all crumbling, but the old city, ringed by 10 historic gates, is still swooningly atmospheric. In mid-January, the skies above Patiala burst into life for the Basant kite festival. Day 4 sees us back on the Grand Trunk road as we ride 260 km to reach Delhi at the end of an exhilarating and refreshing India Motorcycle Weekend Special Tour.
